Search as a Service
Search as a Service using the search technique that integrates access control and indexing/ search mechanisms into a service for content providers, in order to offer the knowledge it possesses.
We see 2 directions in the Search as a Service. At one hand there is the directory services that translate search questions in (e.g.) products, companies that offer goods (ilocal, yellow pages), while at the other hand there are providers that are enhancing the content. This starts at relatively simple thesaurus services that can offer cross language synonyms, but there is an increase in sophisticated services as well as enhanced content with metadata. Metadata can come from databases that hold information on people, companies, industry terms. A good example of Search as a Service is delivered by Reuters via their Clearforest API that is being used in several sites (mash-up app's or search services). It is expected that providers will start offering databases with knowledge that will be used to enhance content, search for concepts, so that is easier to be found.
